The latest data on AI invisibility, mentions, citations and the opportunity that still exists in most categories.
The problem has arrived
Recent data suggests 90% of companies do not appear in any AI response in 2026, rising to 96% for B2B companies on their most important queries. Meanwhile, 27% of consumers already use a language model as the starting point for a purchase.
The available space got smaller
ChatGPT moved from mentioning six or seven brands per answer to just three or four after its October 2025 update. Visibility matters more, and there are fewer available spots.
Being cited is not being recommended
A Semrush study of 50,000 brands found that only 21% of the most cited domains match the brand most mentioned in the final answer. Being a trusted source is necessary, but it does not guarantee the recommendation ends with your brand.
What determines visibility
Informational density, consistency between owned and third-party sources, presence in the spaces each model prioritizes and constant updates. Paid advertising can support other goals, but it cannot replace verifiable authority.
The opportunity is still open
Only 15.2% of analyzed categories have a clear ChatGPT leader. For most companies there is still room to enter, starting by measuring how each model sees them and building consistency before volume.
Conclusion: AI visibility is becoming scarce: fewer brands per answer and more competition to be included.
